Ghaziabad: Metro-Rapid Rail Link Still Stuck, Will The Footbridge Finally Arrive This Year? | Auto News

Despite promises of seamless travel, commuters still face roadblocks as the foot overbridge connecting Namo Bharat and Delhi Metro remains unfinished.

Even though the full 82km Namo Bharat Rapid Rail corridor is now operational, Ghaziabad’s much-needed connectivity between the Namo Bharat station and the Delhi Metro’s Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda station is still incomplete.

The two stations, barely 500 metres apart, remain frustratingly disconnected for daily commuters, as per TOI.

As part of a larger multimodal transport plan, a 300-metre-long foot overbridge with travelators was proposed to bridge the gap between the two stations. Designed to be 6.5 metres wide, this walkway aims to provide a comfortable, direct link between the two systems. The goal is to save time, improve convenience, and reduce dependence on congested road routes.

What’s the Delay?

The project has been held up due to multiple roadblocks — from design tweaks to land acquisition hurdles. According to officials from NCRTC, although the structural work on the bridge is now complete, installation of travelators and roofing is still pending. The completion is now targeted for the end of this year.

Land ownership issues, including portions held by the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) and private stakeholders, have added to the delay. Design revisions also played a part in pushing timelines further.

Why This Bridge Matters

Given that the area around the Meerut tri-section is one of the city’s most traffic-heavy zones, road access to either station is challenging. Most passengers currently rely on e-rickshaws or auto-rickshaws for last-mile travel.

This upcoming foot overbridge is not just a convenience — it’s a necessity. With features like travelators, it will especially benefit senior citizens, children, the specially-abled, and anyone hauling luggage.
