In a move to offer an improved and seamless travel experience with less time, the central government has proposed a high-speed rail corridor. It has been reported that the corridor will be linked with Hyderabad, connecting Bengaluru and Chennai. It will cut off the train travel time by almost 10 hours.

The reports suggested that the train is expected to maintain an average speed of 320 kmph. This will allow the passengers to reach Bengaluru in 2 hours, while Chennai is likely to be slightly extra 20 minutes from Hyderabad.

Route Stretch

According to the details, the high-speed rail corridor on the Hyderabad-Chennai route will be a long stretch of 705 km, while Hyderabad-Bengaluru will cover 626 km.

Less Travel Time Compared to Flights?

If compared to the journey with the flights on the route, travelling with the upcoming high-speed train would make more sense as flights from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Kempegowda International Airport take usually 1.15 minutes, and Chennai International Airport takes 1 hour and 20 minutes. Amid this, the traffic also contributes to the time in reaching to the airports, making the journey a total of 2 to 3 hours long.

Here’s What Official Says

As per the details shared by the TOI, quoting a senior railway official in SCR who said, “The project’s survey and assessment will require Rs 33 crore. The forthcoming rail routes will exclusively serve high-speed trains, differing from conventional rail tracks that accommodate various trains, right from freight to Vande Bharat. This design follows the model of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed corridor, which is being developed for bullet train operations,”
