Marvel Drops Jonathan Majors After Being Found Guilty Of Assault And Harassment

A New York jury has found actor Jonathan Majors guilty of assault and harassment during a domestic dispute with former girlfriend Grace Jabbari. On Monday, Majors was convicted of one count of reckless assault in the third degree and a non-criminal charge of harassment as a violation. Following the verdict, Marvel Studios dropped Majors from his ongoing role as Kang, according to a report from Variety.

The actor was acquitted on another assault charge and one count of aggravated harassment. His sentencing for the guilty verdict is scheduled for February 6, 2024. The charges stemmed from his March arrest which resulted in Majors being dropped from productions, ads, and his agency.

The jury began deliberating on Thursday following closing arguments for about four and a half hours total before reaching a verdict.

CNN reported that during closing arguments last week, prosecutors alleged Majors “didn’t hesitate to use physical violence” against Jabbari in the March altercation. Majors’ attorney doubled down on his client’s innocence during her closing argument, calling the accusations against him “fake,” implying that Jabbari was the one that struck first.

Majors did not testify during the trial, but he was present in the New York City courtroom for the verdict reading.

“We are gratified to see justice served by today’s guilty verdict. Ms. Jabbari testified publicly and truthfully, even though reliving these traumatic events on the witness stand was obviously painful,” Jabbari’s attorneys said in a statement. “We are grateful to the jurors and the Judge for their attention and patience, and to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for their hard work and support.”

Majors was set up to be the next big Marvel Studios villain in the next phase of movies, but an alternate plan has reportedly been circling for months since his arrest. Disney also dropped his film Magazine Dreams, which was supposed to come out during the holiday season from its release schedule as well.
